ONE.
In February, I ended up switching practices for my bariatric surgery. I left the first practice last year. I think I mentioned this to you guys? Anyway, I made a ton of progress this week with my new program! As far as the first one… it was not a good experience attempting to complete a bariatric program virtually during the absolute HEIGHT of the pandemic. I literally had my first one-on-one nutrition “visit” virtually sometime during the first or second week of our stay at home orders via ZOOM… in March. I was literally scared to walk out of my door because we were basically told we’d DIE, and here I was being scolded by a nasty lady because I was stress eating, but being honest with her about it. A couple more visits with her — again, all virtually — and I threw in the towel and put it all aside for awhile. I knew I wanted to get back into a program, but during COVID was not a good time. Not a good time to focus on this, also not a good time to be in a hospital getting elective surgery. Anyway, I spoke to my primary care doctor just this January and told her I wanted to get back to it, and she had me switch programs… and it’s been night and day. It’s a smaller practice and they are way more welcoming. The dietician is not NASTY, and I don’t feel as though I’m being treated like just another number. I had my initial physical this week, AND my psych evaluation (I had to re-do it since they “expire” after a year). So I am moving right along! I will finish the program in July, and then we will get the surgery scheduled! Ahh! It’s getting very real now! By the way, the PA who did my exam kind of chuckled and said they’ve had a number of patients transfer to them because of this dietician I had.
TWO.
One positive thing over the last couple of weeks is that we got both our tax refund AND our stimulus check. Let me tell you, it feels so good to see a large number in our savings account again. It’s been awhile. Pretty much since we bought our house! After you buy a house, it’s all downhill with constant repairs and expenses. I feel so much more calm and relieved knowing that we have a safety net. Like I could let out a breath I’d been holding ever since we dropped all of our monies for a down payment on both our house AND my Jeep all in one weekend back in 2014. Oops. LOL Home repairs? Safe. Car breaks down? Safe. We could easily go to an auto body shop at this point, and get necessary repairs. We spent a little of our “newfound” money, but mostly on necessities and just a few fun things. Most of it went straight into savings.
THREE.
Caleb done LOST his $5 from the Tooth Fairy about 10 minutes after he got it on Tuesday, guys. This child would lose his head if it wasn’t attached. Anyway, he started freaking out, so I had to think fast. I needed to get him out of the room for my fast thinking plan, so I told him to get his pajamas, and then in all of 30 seconds…. messaged my Dad to give him a warning of what I was about to do, deleted our messages, changed his name to Tooth Fairy in my contacts, and then sent him / the Tooth Fairy a message for Caleb to see. It was a stressful few seconds… but it worked!
FOUR.
A couple of days this week were really nice and warm out, so my parents brought the kids to my work. On our town campus (where my library is located), we have a playground and an outdoor StoryWalk, so the kids love doing that, then they come to the library to visit me. That was fun! I always love then I have visitors at work… even though Holden took off running like a roadrunner in our office area. As usual.
FIVE.
Caleb is so dang funny and smart. I always take him running errands with me, and he tends to hit me with the funny one-liners when we’re in the car, although he does it at home too. This week, we went to do a Walmart pick up and went to Target to get some new cleaning supplies (yay, stimulus check and being responsible lol). Here are some recent “Caleb Says” things from the past couple of weeks:
- “I want the book War and Peace by Leo Toystory.”
- “Hazard lights are a good function of a car.”
- While watching a Disney show that has both cartoon characters and real life video footage: "Mommy, this show looks like it has fiction AND nonfiction in it."
Alright, everyone! I hope you have a good weekend! That’s all I got! Tonight and tomorrow evening I have a Blend Bash. It’s one Bash, but not everyone could make it tomorrow, so I have people coming on both nights. It should be fun!
