Hi all! Back to Monday. Again. At least it’s supposed to be warm(ish) this week, but it definitely isn’t this morning. A lot of the snow is melting though, so that’s good! How was your weekend? Ours was pretty decent! As you may have noticed, I’m trying out a new format for my weekend recaps. Instead of a rambling timeline of our weekends, I’m kind of bullet pointing it out in five chunks of things we did. It was kind of hard for me to remember a timeline on Monday when it was time to pull it all together. Let me know what you think.
Three day weekend
I took a vacation day on Friday because I was supposed to be having a Blend Bash (a Pink Zebra party). However, I didn’t get the kit in time because of shipping delays (PZ is in Texas and all the storms set their shipping back) so I had to reschedule it. I debated going to work, but kept the day off because who doesn’t need a day off now and then? Anyway, Holden and I dropped Caleb off to school, then I bravely decided to take him to the lab with me to get my bloodwork done as a pre-op thing for my surgery. He was surprisingly well behaved! After that, we went and picked up some goat milk soap I had ordered (a new thing I want to try). We didn’t do much the rest of the day, except to pick Caleb up from school, and it was my first time! I’m always at work during pick up! Jerry picks up and I drop off, so that was nice. For dinner, I had ordered a family meal from the student run restaurant at the college Jerry works for, so he grabbed that on his way home. We had pasta bolognese (the kids loved it) and chocolate mousse, and it was all delicious.
Bakery run(s)
As always, Caleb had to participate in Spin the Wheel Saturday at his favorite bakery to try and win a prize. For the third week in a row, he landed on “win your 6th cupcake free” which was a bummer, because we were buying cookies instead of cupcakes, but he still had fun. After that, we went to another bakery… bahaha! This other bakery (let’s say “Bakery 2”) we went to is actually my real favorite. It’s more of a casual, hometown feel bakery with lower prices and hand written signs, whereas the wheel spinning one (“Bakery 1”) is a little higher end. We love them both, but Bakery 2 had a new product that I wanted to try: Oreo mousse brownies. We’ve been loyal to them for years! The owner knows us well, gives us a discount, and is always happy to see us. She made our gender reveal cupcakes when we had Caleb, and our KFC cake and drumsticks for his birthday, so she’s a special lady to us! Another way to describe the differences would be to say that Bakery 1 does all the baking in the back, where you can’t see it, sells French macarons (Caleb picked one out!), and has a nicely designed website. Bakery 2 bakes out in the open behind the counter and doesn’t even HAVE a website. And yet… we love them.
Caleb’s first piano lesson
Caleb has always loved music! He started taking Music Together classes when he was a baby, and he had great rhythm and danced on the floor before he ever walked. He actually took those classes all the way up until his teacher moved out of state. Anyway, he became interested in the piano in the fall when he learned about Ray Charles in school during a unit on blindness. After that, he pivoted to Beethoven and a general interest in the “pLano” as he calls it. He asked for a Beethoven statue, and tells Alexa to play “Fur Elise” and “Turkish March.” All that said, we signed him up for piano lessons and he had his first one on Saturday! He’s going to a really cool place that’s a combination music school / coffee house that we’ve actually visited quite a few times as a family for their shakes, coffee, etc. While he had his lesson, I sat in the coffee shop and enjoyed their version of a Shamrock Shake. When he came out, his teacher said he did a great job, and Caleb said he loved it. In the car, he told me maybe he could add his teacher on his kid’s Facebook Messenger (LOL), and sang his new song, "Hot Cross Buns." He’s already looking forward to next week!
Organizing
My Pink Zebra supplies in the garage are a mess, and include my warmers, bases, scoops, etc. Plus, I had stuff in boxes in the dining room and my bedroom still. I need to get my stock organized and logged / tracked on a Google Doc so I know what I have and what’s for sale. When I started this, remember… I only started for a personal discount! LOL. My whole business basically blew up (which is a good thing!), so I was guess I was ill prepared and have finally started putting up and ordering shelves, bins, drawers, totes, etc. I need to find a system that will work for me so I can keep it all organized and not make my head spin so much.
SOME relaxing
Lots of chores and organizing was happening, but also a little bit of relaxing, too. Naps (when Holden wasn’t jumping and laughing in his crib), an episode (or two) of Life After Lockup, donuts from my parents, ravioli from Jerry, and reading a bit of my book for my mystery book club for work: No Exit by Taylor Adams.
And that about sums it up for us!
