Time for another What’s Up Wednesday, to share all the little news and details of what’s going on in our world right now.
What we’re eating this week
I’m working on shedding some more weight before my surgery, so I’ve been drinking a lot of protein shakes and meal shakes, in hopes of seeing the scale go down (it’s slowly going down!). On days that my calories are super low, I’m allowing myself to enjoy some final gourmet cookies (I order from several companies) that I will miss horribly post-surgery. Oh, and also, a local donut shop had a limited edition cookie dough donut a couple of weeks ago that Jerry got me, and it was incredible and worth every calorie.
What I’m reminiscing about
My best friend suggested I write a blog post about nostalgia, so earlier this week when I was working on that post, I was reminiscing BIG TIME while I was thinking of all the songs and things that make me nostalgic. A lot of great memories from high school and of course the early stages of mine and Jerry’s relationship.
What I’m loving
Caleb is starting to enjoy Holden a lot more now that Holden is less of a baby (he’ll be two in September!). He still has many moments when he dislikes him, like this week when he told me to get rid of him (again) and “put him back in the box.” See, Caleb tends to leave his drinks out, and then Holden tends to throw them, so when that happened for the second time in two days, Caleb was screaming and saying he was a “bad baby.” However! When they’re not fighting, Caleb actually calls him to his room now, runs around and chases him, asks where he is when I put him to bed, and laughs with him. It’s very, very cute and rewarding to see their relationship start to blossom.
What we’ve been up to
Not too much, honestly. Work has been exhausting lately, so usually we just lounge around on the couch after work because I’m just about ready for bed whenever I get home. Ha!
What I’m dreading
Deciding what to do about school this fall. Caleb is starting Kindergarten, and even though he went to preschool, this was supposed to be his first official year of school and now it’s all messed up. We have the option of doing two days in school with three days remote learning, OR doing all remote learning. The trouble with these options is that Jerry and I work, so now my mom is going to have the responsibility of doing school with Caleb while also trying to watch our two year old. I wanted to send him the two days so that he would get the opportunity to socialize and work on his communication skills, but Jerry is leaning toward NOT sending him at all because obviously we fear our child getting COVID. We have to decide THIS WEEK, and it’s a lot of pressure. What’s the right thing to do? No one seems to know!
What I’m working on
I’ve been trying to really step up my blogging game, and just put a book about SEO on hold. I’ve been doing some research here and there on the topic, but I still feel somewhat lost about the technicalities, even though I’ve been blogging since 2009!
What I’m excited about
I’m off on Friday, so that’s exciting. I’m also excited / nervous about finding out the next steps for surgery. I have a virtual appointment with my dietitian tomorrow, and a virtual appointment with the sleep study doctor on Friday. I’m getting anxious to see what and when my next steps are, since I’ll have completed my pre-surgery checklist after Friday’s appointment!
What I’m watching / reading
I’ve been all over the board with my TV viewing lately: 90 Day Fiancé, true crime stuff, still trying to finish up Making a Murderer. I’ve been all over the place with my reading too. I am currently reading This Is All I Got by Lauren Sandler and Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas.
What I’m listening to
I’m not a big podcast listener, but I’ve been listening to Chris D’Elia’s podcast, Congratulations, a bit this week. He’s embroiled in some scandal right now, but he’s always good for a laugh, and we could all use a laugh right about now.
What I’m wearing
Nothing fancy. This week at work, I’ve been dressing for comfort, and wearing yoga pants when I can get away with it. Things are very hectic right now at work, and we are all doing multiple, tiring jobs that we aren’t accustomed to, due to COVID.
What I’m doing this weekend
It’s a three day weekend for me! I took off from work on Friday because of how exhausting work has been, and also because I have my doctor’s appointment that morning. Then on Saturday morning, I’m planning to go to a farmer’s market to pick up a couple of fall dolls I ordered from a doll maker who will have a stand there. Other than that, there’s not much else planned for this weekend, so it’ll likely just be housework, napping, TV watching, reading, maybe get the kids outside to play if it’s nice out.
What I’m looking forward to next month
Well, I decided to officially join Pink Zebra as a consultant (it’s a wax / home fragrance company), and I should get my starter kit next month! I’m not a big MLM fan, and I will not be pushing sales, but anyone who knows me knows that I am a candle and wax junkie, so this is all just fun for me. I’m ultimately signing up because I want a discount on my personal purchases, and if anyone else wants to order from me, that’ll just be a bonus. OH, and I am also looking forward to the possibility of a second stimulus check in August! Come to mama!
What else is new
- I usually donate the kid’s clothes when they outgrow them, but this time when I was packing up Holden’s old 18 month clothes, I thought “hey, what the heck, let me post it on FB.” I sold two different lots for dirt cheap to two different friends, so it was a win-win! A little extra money for us, a little more room in our house, and some very affordable clothes for friends. It’s always exciting to me when I sell something on Facebook!
- On Saturday, I wanted to take Caleb out for some one-on-one time, so we went to Abbotts for ice cream. I think it’s nice to spend one-on-one time with the kids, because my attention is always so divided.
- Here are a couple other funny Caleb stories from the last week or so:
- He was rolling around his toy medical cart when he shouted out: “Mommy, I killed an ant with this Doc Mcstuffins cart. Its legs are still moving. Do you have a glove? I’ll take its blood pressure.”
- He thought that his yogurt would glow in the dark because it said “light yogurt.” He even turned off the lights to check.
And that’s it! Hope you all have a nice rest of the week!
