Horror: My Favorite Books (You've Probably Never Heard Of)

You all know that I love horror! I love it in all of its forms: books, movies, shows, haunted attractions. If it’s scary, count me in! Now that it’s October, I thought I’d round up some great horror novels I’ve read over the last few years. In my opinion, it’s an underrated and under-loved genre in general, and so are these books! I really wanted to showcase some horror books that aren’t as well known, but that are definitely worth the read. It’s spooky season, so it’d be the perfect time to pick one of these up.

Prepare to curl up under the covers with your lights on and your windows and doors locked tight!

The Harrowing by Alexandra Sokoloff

I read this book a very, very long time ago, and it’s stuck with me for years. I’d love to re-read this one someday because I don’t remember much about it, just that I really liked it. Anyway, it takes place in a haunted college residence hall over a school break. Several students stayed behind and things get spooky!

Kill Creek by Scott Thomas

I just read this one last year for Halloween and thought it was fantastic! This is a haunted house story about four horror authors who are staying at a long abandoned house for an interview, and then things get spooky… again.

Creature by Shea Hunter

This book will always hold a special place in my heart, because I was actually reading this one at the hospital while I was in labor with Holden! However, it was also just really, really good. This one has really slow-building horror with deeper meaning, about a couple renting a cottage in the woods. It was not what I expected, and had some really good psychological aspects to it.

Bliss House by Laura Benedict

This is another haunted house tale with a huge mystery aspect, and is a bit tamer on the horror side. It has gothic vibes, and mingles the past with the present. This one actually became a series, and I need to read the rest of it!

Urban Gothic by Brian Keene

This one is just your classic blood, guts, and gore! It’s disgusting, action packed, and reads like a horror movie, with crazy mutants. There is really no depth to this one, but it’s a (cringeworthy) blast anyway.

Snow by Ronald Malfi

This is another case of, I read it so along ago that I hardly remember it, but I remember that I really liked it! It wasn’t very scary, but it had great visuals and a dark vibe about it, with a man who arrives in a seemingly deserted town during a snowstorm.

And I think that’ll do it for now! Check one of these out next if you're a horror lover too.
