You already know I’m a horror junkie, so this week has been all about horror here on the blog! I talked about some great horror novels you (probably) haven’t heard of, and yesterday, I talked about my favorite horror movies! Today we’re talking about TV SHOWS! I feel like there’s been a real influx over the last few years of quality horror television, and my list keeps growing longer and longer.
Grab your remote and lock your doors before you watch any of these!
Shows I've Completed
Here are a couple of horror shows that I’ve finished watching and absolutely loved!
The Haunting of Hill House: So good. I watched this one last year when it came out on Netflix, and was super addicted. I have yet to read the book this is based on, but it’s a classic and is on my to-read list.
Scream (MTV): I LOVED this short-lived TV series that MTV did! They based it off the Scream movies, but also made it their own. I kind of want to watch it again now…
Shows I have In Progress
I’m going to be honest here and say that I have a BAD habit of not finishing book series and show series. I always intend to, but other things get in the way. That said, all of these shows are in some state of “watched,” and “watching,” but I’m not done or caught up on any of them. Some, I haven’t watched in years and plan to start back at the beginning!
The Haunting of Bly Manor: this is the sequel (of sorts) to Hill House and just came out last week. I'm working our way through this one now and will likely finish in a couple of weeks or so!
Channel Zero: This show is GREAT! Each season has a different story line and characters, and are all unique. I've watched seasons 1 and 2, and still need to watch 3 and 4.
Bates Motel: This is an excellent TV adaptation and I got pretty far with it but never finished. I’ll probably start over again at some point.
The Strain: This is a really cool show (based on a book series), but I never got very far. I watched it years ago and will definitely have to start it over again.
The Walking Dead: a classic, and one that I didn’t get too far with. I’ve seen maybe 2 or 3 seasons? Need to re-watch and finish this one.
American Horror Story: I absolutely love this show. I’ve seen season 1 (Murder House) twice, season 2 (Asylum), and some of season 5 (Hotel). I need to watch all the others.
Ash vs. Evil Dead: As a fan of the movies, I was really excited about this show. I watched the first season and it was great! It was funny, too. I haven’t watched the other 2 seasons yet though.
Masters of Horror: This is a really cool anthology show with only 2 seasons. I kind of cherry picked a few years ago, watching some of the best episodes, but never ALL of them.
Creepshow (2019): Creepshow is an old movie series, and last year, Shudder rebooted it as a show! I am also working my way through this one.
To Watch
I have big plans to watch all of these shows… someday.
Stranger Things: Yeah, I know, I need to get with the program here.
Monsterland: This one is new on Hulu and sounds really interesting.
The Terror: This is based off a book, and is on my DVR, but I haven’t gotten around to it!
Supernatural: I know, I know, this is a classic and I’ve never watched it!
The Purge: I love the first movie (the sequels, not so much), so I’m sure I would love the show! It’s on my DVR!
Hannibal: I love The Silence of the Lambs, so I’m pretty sure I’d enjoy this show, too!
Scream Queens: This looks right up my alley, and was only 2 seasons long. I feel like I’d love it.
Slasher: I actually think I started this one but didn’t get very far. I love slasher flicks, so this should be good.
iZombie: I’ve heard good things about this one, and it’s supposed to be kind of funny? Definitely need to get on this one!
Wolf Creek: This is an Australian movie / TV show series that sounds interesting.
From Dusk till Dawn: I like the movie, so I’m interested in seeing the show, too.
WHEW! I think that’s it! There were a couple of things I considered adding (like Dexter – my fave), but I wasn’t QUITE sure they were horror.
What are your favorite horror shows? Hopefully I didn’t miss anything good, but let me know if I did so I can add it to my list!
