My Holiday Staycation Plans

I took some much needed time off work for the week of Christmas and the week of New Year’s, and I have (almost) two weeks off! Aside from having to work a half day on Wednesday next week, I will be completely off for 2 whole weeks!

Work (and LIFE) this year has been a doozy, and I completely blame COVID. First, we worked remotely for 2 months. Then, we went back to work in May, before nearly everyone else did. We lost more than half our stuff, adjusted our hours, adjusted our services, and due to the staff reduction, have all been doing additional job responsibilities since May. I KNOW we are not the only ones either. People everywhere have been impacted at work because of COVID. I am so, so grateful to still have my job, but I am also so grateful to have a staycation. It’s been an exhausting year on so many freaking levels.

I have lots of plans in mind for my 2 weeks off that include a good mixture of productivity and relaxation. Here’s what I’m hoping to do.

Relaxing and Fun Tasks

Read: I am so behind in my yearly reading goals for 2020. Being busy with the usual work, kids, and my new Pink Zebra business have contributed, but then add in a little pandemic stress and mental health struggles, and boom, I have fallen behind. I’m currently in the middle of a couple of Christmas books, with a stack of others that I wanted to get to still too. We’ll see!

Blog: As always, blogging is on my list. In particular, I need to work on my three “year in review” wrap up posts! I do one about my personal life, my reading life, and my blogging life for the year. I always do these at the tail end of December. They are A LOT of work, but I always enjoy looking back on them.

Nap: I live for a good nap, not going to lie. On my days off, I usually try to nap whenever Holden is napping if I can.

Watch a gazillion Christmas movies: I have watched more Hallmark Christmas movies this year than I have in any other year to date (and yes, I do track them every year). Is this a bad thing? A good thing? I’m going with good thing. I love watching them every year, but we’ve all needed extra comfort this year. I plan to watch as many more as I can during my staycation.

Watch a million Christmas shows: In addition to my beloved Christmas movies, I also love a good Christmas show. I’ve already finished this season’s Holidays Wars, and am also working on Holiday Baking Championship, Cookie Christmas Challenge, and The Great Christmas Light Fight (my favorite).

Decide on and start my first my post-Christmas show: Since I’ve been pretty much exclusively watching Christmas content since Thanksgiving, I’ll have to decide on my next watch after Christmas. I might finish Bly Manor first, or The Good Doctor. Not sure yet.

Productive Tasks

Clean our room: Our bedroom is a mess. It’s too small and crowded, and it’s filled to the brim with laundry and random crap. I’ve been working on it over the weekends, but now I need to finish it.

Clean the kid’s rooms: Literally cleaned the boy’s rooms top to bottom with my mom when I had a fall stay-cation, and they trashed them both again. Now, they need to be cleaned again before Christmas in preparation for their new gifts. Sigh. Never ending battle.

Start to organize my decor: I have a lot of totes ready and waiting, and once Christmas is over, it’ll be time to start sorting, organizing, and storing my decor. It’s kind of a mess and all over the place right now. I need a better system.

Organize my crafts: I also want to start organize my crafting supplies. If you remember, I started making vintage Christmas creations last year, and have amassed a lot of crafting supplies, like vintage ornaments, figurines, hot glue sticks, etc. I just purchased some plastic storage containers so I can sort this stuff and find what I need easier and faster.

Organize my nails: I asked for more storage containers for my nail strips and nail supplies for Christmas. Are we sensing a theme here? Get organized? I tend to be a disorganized hot mess express, but I’m working on it! I just started using nail strips, and also bought a couple of bottles of nail polish so I can start doing my nails again. I want to get these all sorted and organized nicely as well!

Okay, well… I think that’s enough to keep me busy for 2 weeks! This doesn’t even consider the obvious things like celebrating Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s with our family, so that’ll keep us busy too, of course.

Tell me, are you taking any time off for the holidays? I cannot WAIT!
