Happy, happy Thursday! We are almost to the weekend, so I’m pretty happy today. What about you?
Here are my current thoughts and happenings.
Why do we live here?: My very first thought today was “why do we live here?” We had our first real “sticky” snow last night, but it was only a couple of inches. Nevertheless, I had to break out the snow boots. While I HATE the summer (even more than the winter), I also do not like snow. Too many layers of clothing required, too many wet socks, too much digging out of the cars. Everything takes longer to accomplish, like just getting out the door and getting to work. And when that cold wind hits you in the face… nope. We only live here because our family lives here and because our jobs are not easily transferrable jobs. We have good careers, we both worked our way up from the bottom over many years, and we’re both state employees with state pensions… so alas, we stay. But snow sure makes things harder and more expensive. We need larger vehicles, nicer windows and doors, and everything just takes a beating from the snow, like our house and cars and shoes. Ugh. Hate it.
Much needed time off: I usually don’t get much time off for the holidays because #seniority (even after 10 years here), but I actually got a lot of my vacation time approved this year. I’ll be off for all of Christmas week (except that I have to work a half day on Wednesday, but let’s not go there), and all of New Year’s week. My kids will probably drive me crazier than work, but also, not having to get dressed and go into the aforementioned snow is very appealing.
My reading mojo and mental health: My reading mojo has been pretty “off” all year. I set a goal of 50 books per year, and I’m just under 30 right now. This is SO low and so horrible for me. I hate it! I’m still reading almost every night, but I only manage a few pages at a time lately. I’m tired, I’m scrolling my phone mindlessly, I’m struggling mentally, etc. I think a lot of this has to do with the pandemic, too. My depression has been quite bad this year and it’s definitely impacting me. It makes me very exhausted and less interested in things I normally love, like reading. I am still on my medication, but I think I need to either have the dosage adjusted, or have it changed altogether. I plan on speaking with my doctor soon though. I hope 2021 is a much better year mentally for me, and a much better reading year for me, too.
My nails are did: I applied my first set of ColorStreet nails this morning, and it’s a holiday set! I struggled a little bit to get them on properly, but all in all, I think they came out pretty cute! I’ll definitely be using them again, and I have quite a little collection going already. The tips of them are coming off a little, but I’m hoping to keep practicing and get better at it. I am NOT a girly girl at all, so having my nails done is a nice little touch for me.
The Princess and the…. pee?: Caleb read the story of The Princess and the Pea for virtual kindergarten, and then as always, had to record himself answering some questions and then submit the recording to his teacher. When asked whether the princess slept well, and why or why not, his reply was “No, because she peed on her bed and she can feel the pee.” This was an AUDIO RECORDING that he SUBMITTED! He made this with my mother and they sent it to the teacher. I heard it when I got home from work and I could not stop laughing. We have not heard back from the teacher, and to be honest, he’s not entirely wrong. I mean… his interpretation is just a little different, right?
Bahahaha. And with that, I wish you a happy rest of the week!
