Thursday Thoughts (5)

Hi all! Time for another Thursday Thoughts, which is basically just a bunch of randomness from the week. Really wishing it were Friday right about now, but hey, we’re almost there, right? Here’s what I’m thinking about this week!

Virtual book club author news: So my work bestie and I run a virtual mystery book club at our library. When the pandemic hit and everyone was locked at home, we started this on Facebook. Anyway, we read the first book in a Christmas cozy mystery series this month and had our Facebook “meeting” on Tuesday. Everyone really loved it, and we discovered there was also a second book, but it had published in 2018, and there was nothing new since. Eek! We figured that was the end of it and we were all bummed. I reached out to the author, and heard back relatively quickly. There WILL be a third next year, and she even told me the tentative title! I’m not giving details here, only because I wasn’t given permission, but isn’t that cool? I love when authors are responsive.

Second snow: Our second snow of the season finally happened yesterday, and UGH. Global warming is weird. Usually we’ve had lots of snow by December, but this is only our second so far. Luckily, it hasn’t stuck too much and it’s only been a couple of inches so far. When it gets this cold though, my driver’s side door doesn’t lock / unlock with the beeper and I have to manually unlock with the key, and the buttons on the garage pad stop working. WHY? Because things were not designed to function in freezing cold temperatures. UGH! Thank god for locksmith services, am I right?

My little Linus: Holden has loved fuzzy blankets since he was a tiny baby. He has also sucked his thumb (never a pacifier like Caleb) since he was a tiny baby. Lately, he’s been carrying around blankets while sucking his thumb, and looking JUST like Linus. Our dear friend Michael embroidered Holden a special Linus blanket just for him. Isn’t it amazing?! We just got it in the mail on Tuesday.

My new team member: I have never really been interested in “recruiting” team members for my Pink Zebra business because I’m just kind of content doing my own thing, and it keeps me busy enough as is. Imagine my surprise then when earlier in the week, I got an email saying I had a new team member enroll under me. I mean, I was shocked because I have never once suggested or asked anyone to join me, not even friends. I didn’t recognize her name, but she had a local number, so I scoped her out and sent her an email. Never heard back, so then I friended her and messaged her on Facebook. I felt so nervous, like it was a date or something. She wrote me back instantly, and was so glad I had reached out to her! I said “so I assume they assigned you to me based on our location?” and she said, “no, I chose you. I did my homework.” Oh my, you don’t even know how honored and proud that made me feel! So I now officially have a team of one! LOL

Festive masks: Well, I’m getting in the spirit this pandemic, and I bought some Christmas masks that were handmade by my coworker. 90% of the time I wear the disposable blue ones that work provides, but sometimes it’s nice to get a little fun with it since we’re wearing these things ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Horrible memory: You guys, everyone jokes about mommy brain, but I feel like it’s a real thing. My memory is so, so, so bad, and it wasn’t always like this. Here’s an example. I had to get the CVV code from the back of my debit card just this morning. Looked at it, put it back in my wallet, go to type it in, forget it, have to pull it out again. This kind of thing happens all the time. Some days, I have to count the drawer at work and totally forget, like this past Monday. To be honest, it’s kind of scary. My mind has been so foggy. I don’t know if it’s motherhood, or a side effect of one of my medications or what. I might talk to my doctor about it.

And that’s it for the week. Sorry to end on kind of a low note, but it’s been on my mind! Anyone else experience any memory loss after having children?
